The foot is still quite painful but then, bone bruises last a freakin' long time. It IS a lot better; Star's Reiki helped a lot.

The hand is a concern, too, as the bunch of scar tissue on the heel of my right hand keeps me from using it to apply pressure to anything; it's a sharp pain whenever I do. Not sure what to do about that.

I am going to order a pair of summer shoes that hopefully will not rub or constrain the top of my right foot, without also looking like I'm wearing an old lady shoe.

And I'm fighting the baby slugs for my strawberries. That 'bowl of beer' thing does NOT work at all.

Crickets in the dating department. The mid-30's doctor just disappeared; oh well, I hadn't counted on that much either. And if David lived closer, I have no doubt we'd be dating more but he's busy, I'm busy and he lives 2 hours away. I'm not too hopeful on that one, nice as he is.

And work...lots of work.

The beer is supposed to distract them from the plant...but it didn't work for my hostas. Course salt works, but you need to make an aluminum foil ring around the plant to hold the salt...and I'm not sure if that would work for strawberries. You can try pouring a little table salt on the slugs themselves. It's painful to them.

I'm a big fan of sadistically sprinkling salt on slugs and watching them turn into a puddle of goo.

I sprinkled some on the ground underneath where I'd seen one, and around the slime after they'd decimated a perfectly innocent strawberry.

I really hate slugs.

i have been a bit of a skimmer for awhile being too low for much else. Trying to find when/how you hurt yourself...? And dang, 'sup with Chip? So promising before his surgery and now he's just dried up? grrrrrowl

Strawberries seem to be one of slugs favorites, and one of the toughest to protect. Beer does work but it is a garden-wide kind of solution. if you want to protect individual plants, your options are different.

"Deadline" is an effective poison but only if there are no slugs already inside the ring of poison. Seriously, pricey, but good. I have had leaves and such blow over it making a natural bridge - the slugs will find it!

Keep your Strawberry plants from drooping to the ground. Slugs will use ANY access!

There innovative new options for growing strawberries OUTSIDE if your garden, hanging, i think, and that makes it much harder for the slugs to get them.

Just ideas. Even tho these are costly ideas, they can also get the old wheels turning, right? Straberries are worth the effort. lol

I have fought this battle, as you may have deduced. I actually have a file called "Growing Strawberries" on my desktop! I can't share the images here (there are only three) but i will go post them on my journal for you.

I apparently didn't post about it on LJ, just Facebook.

When we were prepping for the Spring Kansas City Women's concert at the end of April, I was half way up a ladder helping put the bulbs into the light fixtures. On descending the ladder, with a light bulb in each hand, I somehow managed to hook my right foot around the leg of another ladder right there, and fell flat onto my butt, with all my weight on my food as I fell. One of the light bulbs broke and a piece of glass went into the heel of my right hand, which of course bled like a stuck pig.

The other gal grabbed my hand, and helped me to stand up, keeping the dripping blood from getting on me or the stage, well, not much anyway. The hand was more dramatic but I instantly knew that the foot was the worse injury.

They got ice for me and sat me down. It swelled up like a tick and I sat for most of the tech rehearsal and then the next night for the dress rehearsal but I stood up for both concerts.

It's a month later now and the foot it still problematic, although a lot better. The hand has a knot of scar tissue that keeps me from putting pressure on the palm of my right hand. Star did some Reiki on it and the hand last week and that helped. But I'm impatient with being injured.

Chip...yeah, he just disappeared and I have no idea why. It's a mystery. I get lonely and it sucks. But I try to keep hope up that somebody is going to want me someday.

Oh girl! lol Aren't we a pair? We need to start a national klutz convention and be sure to hold it at the same time and location as the paramedics hold theirs!

If you find a solution to the slugs, please let me know! I had the same problem this year. Wee slugs all over every strawberry. Last year it was fire ants. This year we moved and won't have strawberries, but I want them on our rooftop garden next year. Not sure if slugs will go up to the top of a building, butttt... better to be prepared.

I take salt out with me in the mornings and chortle while sprinking it; probably not the best example to set for your children.

The only thing I can think of is to plant hanging strawberries. I'll be interested in hearing if the little slimy bastards can make it all the way up to the rooftop.
