Another one won over to the wonders of linen! And I quote Bruce:

"I didn't really notice it until I put the cotton one on (after having worn a linen shirt the day before.) It was like, 'where'd the air go?'"

Yep, linen really is that much cooler on a hot day than a cotton or cotton/poly blend shirt.

Yup I love linen. I've even got to where I like the wrinkles. Last year I even bought to outrageously beuatiful suits in linen. For those of us who don't have the skill or time to sew, it's hard to find.

Absolutely! There is a trick to having linen wrinkle less but it has to be done before garments are made.

If you wash linen in a 1/2 teaspoon of Dawn dishwashing liquid, it takes the oil out (Dawn cuts grease!) and make it a soft fabric that wrinkles a whole lot less.

I'd suggest if you could find a seamstress down there who could make you suits, that you might get both a savings and exactly what you want in clothing; did you ever consider that?

Must make a point of seeing one of these shirts up close.

Took some getting used to, but really can't be beat for a hot day. Of course the lighter-weight doublet also makes a huge difference.

He'll be wearing the new one this weekend; has a box-pleated collar, bias-cut cuffs and all!

I miss my linen chemise, which died a slow and painful death after 6 seasons of constant wear. I've not found any of the right weight since then at any of my local places, and I'm always hesitant to mail order because I'm not sure of getting the right weight.

If you want, I can mail you a swatch of what I'm using to see if it's comparable to what you like to use. Then, if you like it, the next time I bulk order you can tag onto that. The best price I've found is about $7.50 per yard when I order a minimum of 50 yards.

That'd be nifty! I was short on cash last time you ordered, but having an actual job should imrpove matters nicely.

Can I also get in on the linen purchase, please? My sister (also a costumer) has told me for years that linen is really the best thing for chemises, but all of the linen I've found has been far too heavy for it.

Yup... the difference between even very thin cotton and medium weight linen is pretty shocking, and difficult to believe, but..

Reminds me... I really do need to remember to make and wash the heck out of pair of *linen* bloomers before the end of next month. The cotton was getting a bit annoying some days last year, and I *think* I remember buying a decent weight for that last year when I mistakenly thought I'd have time to sew.

Need to remember to be *extra* careful of holes during rehearsal days this year...

Absolutely! The best price I've seen on a regular basis for linen (they call it 'handkerchief' linen but it's mid-weight linen so far as I'm concerned) is at www.denverfabrics.com.

They out-last cotton bloomers, too!

Only *maybe* if you're buying the bolt. Otherwise fabrics-store.com has the best prices, and a large selection that's sorted out by type of fiber a bit better. Check out the whites alone: http://fabrics-store.com/first.php?goto=fabricselector&menu=f&sstr=1&type=1&content=1&weight=&color=White

But I *know* I bought white last year, and pretty sure it was more than just for a new chemise (old one isn't worn out, but it's a good project for wet days at faire, and I'll need it eventually). I have to figure out which length is for apron, which for chemise, and which for the bloomers that I *think* I ordered some for (in with one of the other two).

I'll go check that out, thanks! I had a wonderful deal lined up with a vendor last Spring but it went really bad....I'll journal that another time but right now I'm off to bed!

Ah yes...

Denver Fabrics.

My costumer sister loves that place, and took me there the last time we were both in Denver at the same time (a couple of years back). That was a dream shopping trip, let me tell you.
